As CEO and joint owner of the Maidstone Studios; Rowland is responsible for the long-term strategic direction of the company, heading up the Studio Resources team to ensure they are up to date with the latest advancements in broadcast technology and delivering a first class service to clients.

Rowland has had a diverse business background but started his career at the tender age of 17 in construction project management.  He then went onto complete a Master’s Degree in Business Administration graduating with a distinction at the age of 33.

  • Rowland believes that the greatest corporate investment to be made is by investing in your team.
  • Enjoys the challenge of hammering down the most cost effective solution to any project.
  • Rowland is a true multi-tasker and enjoys the challenge of having many  projects on the go at once.

Likes:The sound of a ground effect Formula 1 car coming past the old pit wall at Spa, Dressage, Skiing and climbing.

Dislikes: the sound of a turbo charged engine coming past any pit wall – anywhere, brussel sprouts, overt arrogance and cruelty toward animals.

Rowland once had a unusual incident in a toilet at The Ivy Club with actor Ray Winston where the actor could not do up his fly and as a result of his actions, let’s just say that Rowland now considers himself a lifelong family friend of the Winston’s (dream on).

Liz started at The Maidstone Studios as Office Accountant and has many years’ experience in accounting and banking but due to her general all-round calm manner and ability to prioritise with a smile, Liz was gently cajoled in to the role of Office Manager where all problems fall at her feet.

  • Supervising all building developments and maintenance.
  • Accurately preparing accounts to allow the business to run smoothly and evolve in the appropriate way.

Likes: Being outdoors, visiting theatres and a glass of wine.

Since 2002, along with business partner Rowland Kinch, Geoff has overseen the day to day running of The Maidstone Studios, between them they have transformed the business into a hub of creative talent, regularly attracting major network programmes such as Later… with Jools Holland and Take Me Out. Renowned for promoting business in Kent, Geoff is Chair of the Kent and Medway Economic Partnership, Vice Chair of the South East Local Enterprise Partnership (SELEP) and Chair of the Kent Excellence in Business Awards. He is also a Director of Kent Music a Kent Ambassador and has recently been appointed a ‘Deputy Lieutenant of Kent’.

  • Geoff has impeccable diplomatic skills and is considered a first class negotiator.

Likes: Directing TV shows, cooking and holidays in France.

Geoff has worked as a Producer/ Director in the television Industry for almost 40 years working with such greats as, Bob Hope, Elton John, Tommy Cooper, Luciano Pavarotti, Shirley Bassey, Spike Milligan, and Andrea Bocelli.  At one point he was dubbed “Mr. Saturday Night” when his shows “Bob’s Full House” with Bob Monkhouse at 6.30pm, “The Paul Daniels Magic Show” at 8.30pm and Jasper Carrott’s “Carrott Confidential” at 10.00pm, all aired on BBC1.

Julia started off her career as Neil Buchanan’s PA, at The Maidstone Studios. After a stint in the freelance world, she then spent 10 years at the BBC working in Production Management on flagship shows such as Blue Peter, SMart and Newsround before returning to The Maidstone Studios as Studio Manager. With a love of Arts, Julia has a degree in Drama and has appeared as an extra in many of the Children’s shows she’s worked on.

KEY SKILLS:

  • Going that extra mile (or two) to create a friendly, welcoming environment.
  • Juggling all elements of studio bookings including managing production needs and compiling accurate studio quotes at the best possible price.
  • Understanding the bigger picture & making it happen.

Alastair is BBC trained, he has worked across numerous Radio and Television productions and has vast experience in transmission, comms, VT, radio links and outside broadcast. He has worked extensively abroad: New York and Washington as an EBU Engineer Setting up editing and playout facilities worldwide and Germany in outside broadcasts and satellite news gathering, planning and operation of small multi-camera, self contained, OB / Satellite trucks.
He has been with The Maidstone Studios since 2006 and is known as our ’technical Guru’!

KEY SKILLS

  • He has a wide ranging knowledge of broadcast systems
  • Can analyse and realise a productions requirements within a budget
  • And pinpoint and eradicate any faults which may arise

David has over 20 years’ experience in the Building and Construction Industry and is our go to guy with all things Health and Safety. He looks after the entire Maidstone Studios site day to day to ensure the facility runs smoothly

Dave once met his racing idol Valentino Rossi at the British Moto GP but became so overwhelmingly star struck he began stammering strange noises which resulted in Mr Rossi looking oddly at him as he walked past.  Oh Dave!

Jo has filmed all over the world Producing Science and Nature Documentaries for Channel 4, National Geographic and Discovery Channel, to more recently moving into Children’s programming as a freelance Production Manager. She has worked in the Industry for over 17 years and loves the variety of challenges that TV brings to her job.

  • Liaising with production companies and organising all their production needs.

Likes: Cappuccino’s, All things Science, the periodic table (she hopes to eventually learn them off by heart) and her little blue Beetle.

Whilst filming a Tornado series for The Discovery Channel she almost got struck by lightning.  If it wasn’t for several Tornado chasers screaming at her to run for cover because her hair was standing on end, she’d now be human toast.

After graduating from the Solent University in 2001 with a degree in Broadcast Engineering, Alex cut his teeth in media as a Technical Operator for BFBS. Since then, Alex has gone on to spend 5 years at Sun Hill police station working as an engineer on The Bill, and following that worked in Sports broadcasting for Input Media with clients ranging from The FA, UEFA, and The RFU.

KEY SKILLS

  • Technical support to Lighting, Sound, VT and Camera departments throughout the process of studio filming.
  • The setup and operation of production gallery/studio infrastructure.
  • Working out the video/audio technical requirements with clients.

LIKES/ DISLIKES

Likes: Anything with chillies in . . . . .the hotter the better ! He even grows his own.  Those books that have an accompanying audio tape that reads along and has a sound FX every time you turn the page. Do they even do those anymore?

Dislikes: The fact that McDonalds stop serving breakfast at 10:30, why can’t you get a McMuffin in the evening?  The white snow effect/noise you get on analogue televisions when the channel goes off air, seriously that bit in Poltergeist proper freaks him out.

Laura graduated from the University of Kent with a BA in drama and Film Studies and has worked across a variety of media platforms to include Film, TV and Theatre productions. She has a wide range of skills, from assisting Producers, supporting wardrobe departments to performing herself! Laura has also recently started her business in portrait photography, taking head shots for actors and performers.

  • Multi-tasking, problem solving and the ability to be adaptable & flexible in a fast paced television environment

Ellis started her career in retail working for a luxurious lingerie brand but was soon promoted to showroom receptionist in their London head office.   This is where her love for reception, administration and customer service really began and now here at The Maidstone Studios not only does she add that personal touch to clients but is always dressed with a smile.

Keely started off her career as a Holiday Park entertainer where she regularly sang and danced in front of a crowd. She joined The Maidstone Studios in 2012 and is a pivotal part of the office and the accounts team.

After qualifying in Biochemistry and Microbiology Sam secured a career in the food science Industry working her way up from the laboratory to becoming the lead auditor and Manager of a major food wholesale company.

Later adding an accountancy qualification from the Open University led to her setting up the regime for ISO 27001 and some of the financial reporting mechanisms as part of the Maidstone Studios team.

KEY SKILLS:

  • Experience of auditing, often in different European environments.
  • Loves Excel and enjoys developing financial spreadsheets!

Likes: Open water swimming, knitting and crochet, walking, especially with a dog and chocolate anything.

With extensive experience in retail; she has a strong customer service skill set and always adds a personal touch to the service provided to clients and their visitors.

We don’t know where she finds the time.

Martin has worked as an electrician for 35 years and is vastly experienced in his trade. His prime responsibility is maintaining and installing the buildings electrics and reacting to any problems that may arise.

The nearest train station is Maidstone East (there are two train stations in Maidstone). Trains depart from London Victoria and London Bridge. From St Pancras it’s 15 minutes to Ebbsfleet where we can pick you and your team up with our mini bus or limousine. This service is for production companies only – not audiences.
