The University for the Creative Arts’ BA Hons Television Production course is taught at Maidstone TV Studios and offers a unique opportunity to study in, and be supported by, a professional industry environment.
The course provides access to industry-standard equipment, professional working environment and hands-on work experience opportunities on network television shows. The Television Production course also utilises the UCA’s Rochester Campus where students can engage with a large community of creative minded people, as well as accessing the latest in research and learning resources.
Our course aims to provide the skillset and knowledge that will enable students to develop careers as writers, directors, producers, editors and camerapersons in the television and related media industry. With a focus on innovative content making, BA Hons Television Production challenges students to develop and produce ideas across a multitude of small screen platforms that will entertain, enthrall and question the modern audience.
During the first year students are engaged in range of creative projects that introduce them to art of story-telling for the small screen in both the fiction and factual genres. Through critical analysis and discussion, practical workshops and training, students cover idea development, pitching, screenwriting, directing, camerawork and editing. The projects are lead by the course team and include input from visiting professionals.
Through the second year students are introduced to larger scale projects that further develop their writing and production skills, and introduce them to the arena of live studio based programmes, including current affairs and entertainment shows. Students also engage with professional practice, undertaking commissions and work experience opportunities.
In their final year students are encouraged to focus their creative and theoretical interests through the writing of their dissertation and undertaking industry standard projects. In their final major projects students can specialise in a particular field of expertise and develop work that will help launch their careers.
