18 January 2007 – Supermarket Sweep Remake at The Maidstone Studios

The Maidstone TV Studios, Kent, is hosting the remake of the game show ‘Supermarket Sweep’ in its new flagship facility, Studio 5, a fully digital 12,000 sq ft studio with a brand new state of the art gallery.

The show, which is being recorded throughout January, is presented by the Supermarket Sweep legend, Dale Winton and is due to be screened on ITV1 in February.

Dean Jones, Head of Production, Entertainment and Comedy at talkbackTHAMES, said: ‘We are enjoying working at The Maidstone Studios.  The facility is an obvious choice for us.  Not only does it offer a large flexible studio space, but the experienced on site team have been extremely accommodating to all our needs and accelerated their development plans for their new Studio 5 gallery so it could be ready for our first date of filming.

Additionally, the facility is cost effective, has plenty of parking space and a friendly professional approach.  We anticipate the show will be welcomed back by the many fans we have had correspondence with over the last thirteen years.”

Kenton Oxley, General Manager, The Maidstone Studios, said: “We are delighted that the Maidstone Studios has been chosen to host this fun-packed game show.

Our new flagship studio holds up to 1000 audience members and is ideal for any entertainment show.  We are positive Dale Winton and the team will enjoy their time with us.”

In essence, the format of Supermarket Sweep remains the same, with three teams of contestants competing to earn as much time on their clocks as possible by answering product and price related questions.  They can use this time to do a supermarket sweep and grab as many items from the shelves as possible!  The original programme ran from 1993 to 2001 on ITV.

The Maidstone Studios is based in the heart of Kent , yet is within easy reach of London .

The purpose built studios have been operational for over 20 years and have been home to some of the U.K’s best programming.

Since 2002, when the studios was bought by a private consortium, the company has invested heavily in new technology, resources and staff.

The new 12,000 sq ft studio, which holds an audience of 1000, makes the Maidstone Studios one of the leading facilities in the country.
